HU Pirates intramural tennis team plays in first tournament of inaugural season

The Hampton University intramural tennis team played in a two-day tournament in its inaugural season at the College of William & Mary led by team captain, Kaelyn Lowe. Throughout the two-day tournament, the pirates played against the College of William & Mary, Johns Hopkins University, Virginia Tech University and Old Dominion University in intense matches.

Upon starting the intramural team, Kaelyn received $500 grant from the United States Tennis Association(USTA) to assist in equipment costs.

“A lot of people want to play tennis for fun but not on the actual tennis team. The intramural team gives everyone an opportunity to play tennis recreationally,” Kaelyn Lowe said, a sophomore journalism major from Atlanta. Kaelyn went on to express how the team can move forward in the right direction. “Communicating and knowing the mistakes we make will help us better next time. Making sure that we don’t make the same unforced errors will also help us next time.”
